Biden-Harris’s apparent victory gives us the opportunity to make up lost time on climate action. But we must stay vigilant and engaged.

While it will take days for all the votes to be counted — and all votes must be counted to ensure all Americans are heard — the Associated Press has called the election for Joe Biden.

Biden’s apparent electoral victory offers new hope in our effort to move forward and make progress on a wide range of important issues, not least of which is the urgent need to make federal climate action a cornerstone priority for the new administration.

Joe Biden has a long track record of understanding climate change and recognizing what he called its “existential threat.” And he ran on an ambitious agenda that would put America on a path toward a cleaner, safer climate future.

But we know that in politics, nothing can be taken for granted. Powerful and deep-pocketed special interests will align against us. So we all need to do our part as engaged and determined advocates to spur action.

With your support, we have developed bold plans for progress under a Biden administration. Our priorities for action include:

√ Rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement and leading the world to drive bigger pollution reductions demanded by science.

√ Supercharging our transition to renewable energy and modernizing the electric grid to make it cleaner and more reliable, resilient and efficient.

√ Reducing methane pollution from the oil and gas industry to slow down near-term warming.

√ Fast-tracking the availability and use of electric trucks, buses and passenger cars — along with the infrastructure to power those EVs.

√ Bringing science back to the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision-making and regulatory review process.

√ Putting a price on carbon emissions, creating economic incentives to reduce climate pollution and protect tropical forests that serve as vital carbon sinks.

√ Securing passage of a comprehensive, highly-actionable, science-based federal climate action bill.

When it comes to protecting the environment, history teaches us that big progress comes in big waves. With Joe Biden’s apparent victory and your help, we will translate this opportunity into reality.

You have stood with us as we took on the most anti-environmental administration in our lifetimes. And you never wavered in your commitment to protecting our communities and our planet.

So let’s seize this moment to roll up our sleeves and unleash innovative, science-based solutions to create a planet upon which nature and people can thrive. Thank you!

In solidarity,
