VIDEO: Help for Hoosiers Pursuing International Adoptions

Many Hoosiers experience difficulties when going through the international adoption process, facing tedious rules and regulations. As part of my service to Hoosiers, members of my team can help navigate this complicated process.

The below video features the Oren family from Anderson, Indiana. The Orens reached out to my office to help facilitate the international adoption of their son, Genene, from Ethiopia. In 2017, his adoption was stalled following the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia’s decision to suspend international adoptions. The order left more than 200 U.S. families, and Ethiopian children, in a heartbreaking limbo.

Disturbing News from South Bend

The discovery of more than 2,000 remains of aborted children in the home of a former South Bend doctor is extremely disturbing and illustrates why protecting the unborn is as important now as it has ever been. We need to know more about this despicable situation so that we can ensure it never happens again. Learn more here.

My Recent Trip to the Middle East

I recently returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia, the United Arb Emirates, and Oman that provided an important opportunity to meet with and better understand three of the major players in the region.

Diplomacy is complicated and we’re not going to make progress without open dialogue. Candid conversations with these three countries are critical as we confront the serious threat posed by Iran, continue working to end the world’s worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and address the religious extremism that is fueling these challenges across the Middle East.

Last week I also joined Senator Chris Murphy and eight other bipartisan Senators on a letter encouraging Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to fulfill the Kingdom’s $750 million commitment to the United Nations to help fund critical programs aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which he verbally committed to during our in person meeting.

Urging Trump to Act on Kashmir Crisis

I joined Senators Chris Van Hollen, Ben Cardin, and Lindsey Graham in a letter about our ongoing concerns on the situation in Kashmir and urging the President to take immediate action to help end to the current humanitarian crisis there. Sovereignty over the historical state of Kashmir, which is divided between India and Pakistan, has been a point of debate and occasionally conflict between the two nations since 1947.

Bill to Provide TSA Precheck to Disabled Veterans Passes the Senate

Last week, my bipartisan bill to provide disabled veterans TSA Preè unanimously passed the Senate and is one step closer to being signed into law. As a Marine, I swore always to remain faithful to those serving by my side. That includes ensuring our veterans receive the care and respect they are due after they return home. The passage of this bill has the potential to help the 70,000 amputee, 100,000 paralyzed, and 130,000 blind veterans currently subjected to a rigorous and demeaning screening process when traveling.

The Journal Gazette and NWI Times covered the benefits this bill has to offer.

Hoosier Confirmed as Director of the Office of Foreign Ministers

Hoosier Stephen Akard from Indianapolis was confirmed as Ambassador and Director of the Office of Foreign Missions to oversee the operations of U.S. missions abroad and the treatment of foreign missions in the United States. I look forward to his help in keeping our relationships abroad strong.
