John,
President Trump will be leaving the White House in January.
But that doesn’t mean our fight is over.
President Trump has shredded the rule of law, used racist attacks to further his corruption, and taken profiteering to a level never before seen in our country. Now is not the time to stop our investigative and legal work to uncover wrongdoing and hold him accountable. And we won’t stop.
A lame duck President Trump is still incredibly dangerous to our democracy. We know that he could continue to use the Justice Department to go after his political opponents, destroy records, pardon his cronies and family, and do who knows what else. We know that he is actively working to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election and of our democracy itself. We can’t stop our work pushing back against these attacks—in fact, this is likely to be one of the most dangerous periods of his presidency.
Once Trump leaves office, we need to immediately push for comprehensive, substantive democracy reforms, so that our democracy is never again so vulnerable to corruption, abuse of power, and attacks on the rule of law. We certainly can’t stop our policy and advocacy work to push Congress and the new administration to take action on these critical reforms.
That’s why we’re taking a breath, reflecting on the last few years—and then doubling down for the work ahead, because we know our democracy is still not safe from Trump’s attacks, and it is certainly not safe from money in politics, industry influence or other corruption.
If you’re able, please consider donating to support CREW’s work in these next few crucial weeks. If we know one thing about Donald Trump, we know that he won’t back down—he’ll only escalate his assault. But we won’t back down either. If you’re with us, donate now to sustain us for the fight ahead.
President Trump may have been the most corrupt president in American history, but when he leaves the White House, the problems and weaknesses he exposed will remain.
Ending this period of devastating corruption is certainly a crucial step for our democracy and a reflection of so much important work that has been done, but there is much work ahead. CREW is ready to continue the fight.
Thank you for standing with us,
Noah Bookbinder
