Dear
Friend
--
On behalf of the people of Long Beach, I want to congratulate our
new President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
We are ready to work with them as one of our nation’s largest American
cities.
Job number one will be to build a new national partnership to beat
back the spread of COVID-19, which includes passing a new economic
stimulus package through Congress to support small businesses and our
families most in need.
And we also have much to do to improve our infrastructure and
transportation programs. Over the last few years, Long Beach residents
have invested millions into the city to improve our streets, roads and
sidewalks—but the federal government should be right
there with us—meeting us dollar for dollar with
investments in what makes America work best. I see a great opportunity
to do that with the upcoming Biden-Harris Administration.
We can also expect new funding and partnerships to take on our
statewide homelessness crisis and build more housing that’s affordable
for working families. And I expect strong support for our city
programs and initiatives to fight climate change.
Personally, I want to thank President-elect Biden for visiting Long
Beach during the campaign. We have developed a good friendship that I
hope will serve our city well. And I’m very excited to work with our
new Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. She’s been a strong ally and
friend as our California Senator and I expect an excellent partnership
in the future.
Congratulations again to the President-elect and Vice
President-elect, and I am excited to get to work with them.
Thank you and stay safe,
Mayor Robert Garcia
