Dear John,
Care is officially back on the agenda, and you put it there!
The Caring Majority has worked for years to get elected officials to pay attention to care issues. And the pandemic made it clearer than ever that easing the burden on caregiving families must be a priority. This election, we voted by mail in record numbers, stood six feet apart in long lines, and showed up to say that we need leaders who care about us.
During the campaign, President-Elect Joe Biden, a caregiver himself, and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, who will be making history as the first Black woman to serve as Vice President, made caregiving a pillar of their economic agenda.[1] They know that caregiving work makes all other work possible. Now let’s make sure they know they have our support to prioritize care and intergenerational families in our economic recovery.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris proposed a $775 billion investment in care that would begin to meet the needs of caregiving families. Their plan includes:
* expanding long-term supports and services for our disabled and senior family members;
* clearing the waiting lists for home care and community services that people already qualify for but too often cannot access; and
* increasing the support that family caregivers need, such as a streamlined portal where family caregivers can access information on local programs, services, and benefits.
Make no mistake, this was not an easy election, and this opportunity would not have been possible without the millions of caregivers — many of them Black and brown people — who made care part of our agenda all year, both by taking action and voting for care. An economic care recovery will not mean anything if it does not center the experiences, challenges, insights, strengths, and solutions of Black and brown women who have been at the epicenter of our failed care infrastructure. And we know that they can lead us all to a better, more caring country for everyone, not just the privileged few.
Let’s take a moment to be joyful and celebrate that the future of care in America will be brighter for all because of our hard work to make care a top priority issue for all decision-makers. And we are so proud that Caring Across volunteers and Care Fellows called and texted more than 16,000 caregivers to help them make plans to vote safely. After we celebrate, we will roll up our sleeves and make sure Joe Biden and all the new members of Congress prioritize caregivers, seniors, and people with disabilities early in the new administration. He promised, and we want to help him keep that promise.
Will you tell President-Elect Biden to make building a robust care infrastructure a priority early in the new administration?
