It’s official. America swung back toward the direction of justice, peace and progress. But we’re not out of the woods yet.

Over the past four years, President Trump has imperiled our lives, our families and our well-being. Now, a clear majority of Americans rejected all of that. The man our nation elected, President-elect Joe Biden, offers a stark contrast in leadership for all Americans, including American Muslims.

Today we breathe a sigh of relief. Tomorrow we get to work.

History has shown us that we cannot take our rights for granted. And, while we’re already advocating our priorities to the Biden-Harris transition team, we’re also working hard to protect our communities from threats and to ensure a civil transfer of power during a turbulent lame duck period.

There is much healing to be done - and much to repair - but we also have much to be optimistic about. Never before has a presidential nominee so openly courted our community. He committed to ending the Muslim Ban on day one of his presidency and promised directly to the Muslim Advocates community that American Muslims will serve in all levels of his administration.

We are relieved that America made the right decision, but we’ve seen anti-Muslim bigotry rear its ugly head under administrations from both parties and we will have to advocate through the end of this year and well into the Biden Administration.
