URGENT: Trump's EPA is rushing to give another handout to Big Polluters — this time making it easier for big industrial facilities to emit more of the most toxic pollutants into our air. Submit an official public comment now »
This is horrifying, friend. The Trump administration is trying to gut public health protections and fundamentally rewrite the Clean Air Act with the stroke of a pen.
Under EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler's proposed rollbacks, large scale polluters — companies that put tons upon tons of toxins into our air — would be regulated like smaller facilities and allowed more lax pollution limits.
This breathtakingly dangerous move could cause a huge rise in hazardous pollutants like lead, mercury, benzene, and arsenic, risking our health and our lives — especially those in communities of color and low-income communities who already bear the brunt of pollution.
Looser regulations only benefit Big Polluters — the Trump administration is once again hurting families everywhere to help big industry.
But LCV supporters like you can fight back: The EPA is accepting public input on this plan until September 24, so we need to flood the comment docket with messages and demand they stop polluters from poisoning our children. Will you submit an official comment now?
DEADLINE NEXT WEEK: The health of our families is more important than polluter profits. Tell the EPA to protect our air and maintain strong standards for polluters »
To put it simply:
This plan is nothing more than a gift to Big Polluters across the country at the expense of our clean air and public health. This proposal would allow larger facilities to be classified as smaller polluters, which would give them permission to emit more of the most toxic air pollutants like dioxin, arsenic, lead, manganese, benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, and ethylene oxide, to name a few. These chemicals are associated with numerous types of cancer, neurological and developmental problems, and asthma. They worsen air quality wherever they are pumped into the air.
Due to systemic inequity and disenfranchisement, communities of color and low-income communities are more likely to live near these polluting sites,so they bear the brunt of this pollution and its health impacts. With weaker standards in place, these communities would suffer even more unhealthy air days and even worse health impacts.
We cannot allow Trump's EPA to continue to perpetuate systems of environmental racism that further exacerbate inequality and injustice.
Friend, all communities deserve clean air, and under the Trump administration, that right is under attack like never before.
If enough of us submit a comment, the EPA will feel the heat to reconsider this dangerous sell out —
we can protect frontline communities from more toxic air pollution. But if the EPA only hears from the fossil fuel industry and other major polluters, they'll move forward full steam ahead. Can we count on you to join the fight?
Friend: This administration has already gutted so many of our environmental protections. Don't let them sell out our air now. DEADLINE: 9/24 »
Thank you for joining the fight to protect clean air for all.
