Hi John, it’s Kris Brown, the President of Brady. I wanted to personally reach out to you as we await the final ballots to be counted in what’s shaping up to be the most consequential election of our lifetime.

First off, let me say this: It’s not a sprint to the White House. It’s a slow and steady race. And believe me, we are getting there. In our democracy, every vote matters. It takes time to count millions of ballots, especially mail-in and absentee ballots. It is not up to any candidate on any side of the aisle to declare who won.

We, the people, decide. Our voices matter and votes decide.

As we wait patiently for the results of the presidential election, we have a lot of victories to celebrate on the federal, state, and local levels. You’ll read all about them in this email, but to say the least, what we have accomplished so far is remarkable. Already, voters have delivered historic wins for gun violence prevention champions across the country — thanks to gun safety supporters like you.

We are on the precipice of something historic. This election has been a referendum on Donald Trump’s lethal inaction toward gun violence, and — together — we are changing the course of our country.

So let me close with this, John. You should feel confident knowing that our democracy is working as it should. Every vote will be counted. And we, as a nation, must remain calm and collected until every American’s voice is heard. Until then, for some much-needed inspiration, watch one of my favorite videos from my hero, Sarah Brady; she knew a thing or two about patience and perseverance.

Election 2020: All of the Ways We Secured Historic Wins in the Movement to PreventGun Violence

Across the country, voters ousted NRA-backed politicians, elected gun safety champions, and delivered major wins for gun violence prevention.
In the U.S. House, we protected our hard-fought gun violence prevention majority. In particular, Reps. McBath, Porter, Levin, and Crow, who ousted NRA candidates in 2018, proved that when lawmakers take action on gun violence, they continue to win.

In the Senate, gun safety champions John Hickenlooper (CO) [[link removed]] and Mark Kelly (AZ) [[link removed]] flipped seats that were previously held by NRA-backed senators. On the state level, Delaware voters sent a gun safety supermajority to the state senate and California voters passed Proposition 17, a ballot measure to restore voting rights for 50,000 parolees and build a more representative democracy — especially for communities most impacted by America’s gun violence epidemic.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Learn more about our major wins this election cycle — and take a moment to celebrate our progress toward a safer America.
