Dear Friends,

Thank you for all you have done to be a source of healing and hope for the many individuals, families and communities we serve. Your generosity allows us to meet the ever-evolving challenges of addiction—now all the more complex due to COVID-19.

Given what we have been through together these past six months—closures, shelter-in-place orders and isolation—addiction is on the rise. A nationwide survey found alcohol consumption during the pandemic is increasing while even more are suffering from depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. According to reporting from the New York Times, substance use-related deaths are up 13% from last year.

The need is now greater than ever, and today, our goal remains simple: tell everyone who needs us that “You are not alone.” Hazelden Betty Ford is here.

That is why we are all the more grateful for our donors who rallied together to help us surpass our COVID-19 Response Fund goal.

With the support of donors like you, we raised $600,000 to help ensure our ability to maintain our lifesaving services during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Last March we pivoted with immediate action to accelerate and expand our virtual efforts—including our recovery and mental health services, family and children’s programs, and our Graduate School of Addiction Studies classes.

Since last April, the Response Fund has matched that challenge with an additional $300,000 from donors just like you!

The individuals and families that came together to create our COVID-19 Response Fund Challenge share your commitment and compassion to take care of one another. And in the midst of COVID-19, it has never been more important or more urgent.

Thank you for you compassionate action and generosity toward those we serve. As the worldwide upheaval of COVID-19 reminds us, we cannot know what tomorrow brings. But united in purpose, we can lean into whatever comes our way with wisdom, strength and courage.
