Friend,

I'm writing you today with big news: As of last week, over a fifth of Texas Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have announced their retirement.

Yes, you read that right, 22 percent of Texas Republicans are not seeking re-election. They're scared -- and it's because of the hard work we've been doing on the ground for more than six years.

And we have the numbers to show for it. We've activated over 39,000 volunteers across Texas and registered more than 190,000 people to vote.

Republicans have known for a long time that having an electorate made up of diverse communities across Texas means more Democrats in office -- that's why they spent years building barriers to voting, especially for communities of color.

But after the years of work we've done along with partner organizations to register and mobilize voters across the state, competitive elections all across Texas are looking like a real possibility. And rather than face tough races or defend the racist and extreme rhetoric coming out of the White House, Republicans are deciding to walk away.

The 2020 election is right around the corner, and what we do with these next few months is critical. If we keep up our efforts, we have the power to outrun Republicans and change the face of Texas politics. But if we get complacent in the face of this good news, we risk losing the progress we've already made.

So, we're buckling down now, as we look forward to the next election. It'll take each and every one of us to change Texas politics for good. Can you chip in to help us meet our voter registration goals by the primary elections?
