John,
As the votes continue to be counted, I want to share with you the inspiring stories of four refugees who describe voting for the first time. » [link removed]
I hope you, John — an IRC supporter and someone who cares deeply about refugees — will take a few minutes to read about why voting means so much to these individuals.
For refugees in the United States, voting is the culmination of a long journey from fleeing war or persecution in their countries of origin to becoming full participants in American democracy.
It's critical that the votes of all Americans are counted — including refugees who have undertaken incredible journeys to become U.S. citizens.
I'll end by sharing this powerful quote from Fredrick with you, a Ugandan refugee who lives in Boise, Idaho: "Your vote counts, and your vote will change the world."
In solidarity,
Andrea Kost
