Greetings, Comrades!
We're please to announce that our chapter along with the local hub of the Sunrise Movement have formed a Sacramento local of Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus (AfroSoc). Our local joins others across the nation, as part of DSA's only nationally recognized caucus.
Who is AfroSoc Sacramento:
The AFROSOCialists and Socialists of Color Caucus (AFROSOC) is a multi-tendency national caucus. The caucus and its local chapter formations advocate for and build power with Sacramento Sunrise and DSA’s Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) membership and our communities. We pursue this work to build a multiracial working-class base, the only strategy for destroying all oppressive systems and overthrowing racial capitalism through the creation of a BIPOC socialist world. We encourage white and non-BIPOC comrades to support us and organize within the DSA Racial Solidarity Committee and the Sunrise Anti-Racism / Justice, Equity, and Anti-Oppression Discussion Group.
What is a caucus?
Caucuses are unofficial formations of members within the chapter and do not necessarily represent the positions of Sacramento DSA. Afrosoc is the only caucus officially recognized by National DSA (aka allowed to share resources) https://www.dsausa.org/files/2020/07/National-DSA-Organization-Chart.jpg
Is AfroSoc open to non-BIPOC?
No. The caucus is only open to folks that identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color (for ex. Latino/a).
Purpose:
The founding members intend for this to be a welcoming space for socialist Black, Indigenous, and people of color in Sacramento DSA and beyond to provide support, validate each other’s unique cultural experiences, and also to develop our political analysis.
We think it's important to have a space that affirms both our experiences as black, indigenous, and people of color, as well as grounds our political understanding as BIPOC socialists.
We’d like to invite you to our first social / meeting next Friday at 7 PM! We’ll be getting to know each other and discussing what we’d like to get from this space.
