Volunteer your time to help chase ballots in WA No images? Click here Environmental Champion, Most of us believe that for democracy to work for all of us, it must include us all no matter what we look like or where we live. Now that the will of the voters is clear, Trump is trying to divide us by sowing doubts about our election, interfering with the count and asking courts to throw out ballots cast by people struggling to make ends meet, Black people, and new Americans for his own gain. Voters overwhelmingly turned out for Biden and trusted election officials are counting and verifying our ballots. Now it is time to come together across race and place to ensure that the leaders we've chosen are sworn in to deal with the pandemic, the climate crisis, and move us forward together to a better future. Every vote must be counted. One of the cornerstones of our democracy is that everyone who is eligible may cast a ballot and have their vote counted. As most of us know, our democracy is stronger when it includes us all, regardless of our race, class, or where we live. In Washington state, there are over 400,000 ballots still waiting on hand to be processed. Our election officials are working hard to ensure all these ballots are counted and that everyone who cast a vote has their voice heard in our democracy. While this process occurs we must be patient but we can also shift focus to curing challenged ballots. We need your help to ensure these ballots are counted, especially in very close races. Contacting voters with challenged ballots is key. We will be calling and texting voters with challenged ballots to let them know their ballot is not currently being counted and help them through the process of curing it. Can you join us in reaching out to voters with challenged ballots around the state? Sign up here. When a ballot is challenged, it means that it was flagged by election officials, usually because the voter forgot to sign their name or the signature did not match. Voters are given the opportunity to cure their challenged ballot but they often need extra support to understand how to do this, to make sure their vote counts. Around the state, we expect several close races to come down to just a handful of votes in the final count so ensuring ballots are cured and counted is essential. More Washingtonians voted this November than ever before and we must keep that momentum going by ensuring all our votes count. We need your help - join us in reaching out to these voters and ensuring every vote is counted. Onward, Shannon Murphy |
