RAINBOW WAVE 2020!
We’re three days past Election Day 2020 and one thing is clear: the Rainbow Wave is back [[link removed]] ! As of Friday morning, 189 LGBTQ candidates have won their races, with 50 still undecided [[link removed]] . You can also read about it from them. ! [[link removed]]

And the wins were not contained to so-called safe blue states, but spanned the country. LGBTQ candidates made huge gains in both red and blue states [[link removed]] .
QUEEREST CONGRESS EVER
It’s official: we have elected the most diverse LGBTQ group of members of Congress ever [[link removed]] ! And all seven of our incumbents were reelected.
Both Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres won their races in New York, and will both be the first Black openly LGBTQ members of Congress [[link removed]] . Ritchie also makes history as the first openly LGBTQ Afro-Latinx person elected to Congress [[link removed]] .

In Minnesota, U.S. Congresswoman Angie Craig defeated her opponent – and the bizarre plot hatched to defeat her [[link removed]] .
NEW TRANS VOICES ELECTED
Another exciting piece of news: the number of trans lawmakers nearly doubled this week [[link removed]] . Each of them made trans history in their state [[link removed]] !
Sarah McBride also shattered a huge rainbow ceiling at the national level [[link removed]] : she is the first openly LGBTQ state senator ever elected [[link removed]] in U.S. history.
Stephanie Byers made history as Kansas’s first openly trans state legislator [[link removed]] . She’s also the first openly trans person of color to serve in a state legislature in the U.S [[link removed]] !
In Vermont, Taylor Small will take hear seat as the first openly trans person to serve in the Vermont state legislature [[link removed]] .
Colorado state Representative Brianna Titone faced a wave of baseless transphobic attacks – and pulled off a big win anyways on Election Day [[link removed]] .
RAINBOW LEGISLATORS
Two big historic firsts from Florida: Shevrin Jones and Michele Rayner WON their races [[link removed]] ! Shevrin makes history as the first openly LGBTQ state Senator in Florida, while Michele claims the title of first openly LGBTQ woman to serve in the Florida state House.
In Georgia, Kim Jackson will officially take her place in the state Senate! She is the first openly LGBTQ person to win a seat in the body. [[link removed]]
Daneya Esgar won her reelection campaign for the Colorado state House [[link removed]] AND is the new Majority Leader [[link removed]] !
Representative-elect Ann Johnson flipped Texas House District 134 [[link removed]] and will now join the growing number of LGBTQ voices in the Texas legislature!
Torrey Harris and Eddie Mannis both made history as the first openly LGBTQ people elected to the Tennessee legislature! Torrey spoke with News 3 about his groundbreaking victory [[link removed]] .
Adrian Tam will restore LGBTQ representation to the Hawaii state House – and beat Proud Boy Nick Ochs to do it [[link removed]] !
Mauree Turner won her race for the Oklahoma state House [[link removed]] , becoming the first non-binary state legislator in America [[link removed]] !
MESSAGES OF VICTORY
VICTORY IN SAN DIEGO: Todd Gloria makes history as the first openly LGBTQ person and first person of color elected mayor of San Diego [[link removed]] . He celebrated joining the growing list of LGBTQ mayors in this touching tweet [[link removed]] .
U.S. Congressman Chris Pappas thanked supporters for sending him back to the Capitol. You can watch his full message here [[link removed]] .
California state Senator Scott Wiener won his reelection campaign, despite months of anti-LGBTQ attacks and death threats from online trolls [[link removed]] .
Pennsylvania state Representative Malcolm Kenyatta wished Jess Benham congratulations on her election to the PA state House [[link removed]] !
New Mexico now has four openly LGBTQ state legislators. Congratulations to all of them [[link removed]] !
Election Night 2020 also brought us two new openly LGBTQ sheriffs: Ohio’s Charmaine McGuffey and South Carolina’s Kristin Graziano both WON [[link removed]] !
