Crucifying Kavanaugh

There's no doubt that the New York Times, the left's "paper of record," is little more than a tabloid now.  Over the weekend, the New York Times published a new hit piece smearing Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

It's been only 11 months since Kavanaugh, his wife and daughters were put through hell during his Senate confirmation process.  The tactic was diabolical.  Christine Blasey Ford had zero evidence to support her charges against Kavanaugh, yet the left insisted that she be permitted to slander the judge on national television.

And as the left used her to delay the confirmation process, one new accuser after another was brought forward, with each accusation presented as evidence that Kavanaugh was a serial rapist.  But by the time the confirmation battle was over, multiple accusers had recanted their accusations.

Kavanaugh made it onto the Supreme Court by a vote of 50-to-48.  The unspoken accusation against him got down to one issue -- that he may be the fifth vote to restrict abortion.  You can read a full account of this battle in Justice On Trial by Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino.

Between then and now, multiple left-wing leaders promised us that the Kavanaugh battle wasn't over.  Rep. Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has made no secret of his desire to impeach Justice Kavanaugh (here and here).

Now the New York Times is publishing more garbage, another accusation from Kavanaugh's college years.  But the Times leaves out one important detail -- the alleged victim says she has no recollection of the event and doesn't want to talk about it.

The accusation comes not from the alleged victim, but from an individual with ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton.  And on that basis, the Times is again willing to deprive Kavanaugh of the presumption of innocence.  And it is willing to subject his wife and daughters to this pain and agony all over again.

Whatever you had to deal with this weekend, just know that Justice Kavanaugh had to look his young daughters in the eyes and reassure them that these smears are untrue.  Can you imagine what that is like?

President Trump jumped in immediately.  He denounced the Times hit piece, warning that the media was trying to browbeat Kavanaugh into moving left.  I suspect the attacks would stop immediately if Kavanaugh embraced abortion.

Saudi Arabia Attacked

Thank God for fracking!  Thank God for the supporters of our carbon-based energy industry.  Thank God for George W. Bush, who promoted fracking.  Thank God Donald Trump rolled back regulations on the energy industry.  Thank God for the men and women who work in this vital industry.

As you know, Saudi Arabia was attacked over the weekend.  Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack.  I don't believe it.

The world's largest oil processing facility and second largest oil field were struck by multiple "flying bombs."  If America was not producing record amounts of oil today, prices would have jumped more than the record 20% spike that has already occurred.

Thankfully, President Trump quickly spoke up to reassure nervous markets and pledged to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve if needed.

Having said all that, this is still a huge and disturbing event.  The implications go far beyond the ability of Saudi Arabia to secure its energy infrastructure.

Seventeen drones, some quite possibly cruise missiles, were fired at Saudi facilities.  Sixteen of them hit the most important parts of the energy complex.  My sources tell me that each one struck within five to six feet of where they had to detonate in order to cause maximum damage.

Unless the Houthi tribesmen of Yemen are all recent graduates of MIT, there is no way they could have pulled off this attack.

It is very telling that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said several times over the weekend that there is zero evidence these drones originated in Yemen.  He seems to be suggesting that they may have been fired directly from Iran or from areas of Iraq.

Obviously, this is a very bad situation in terms of what to do next and the implications of any response.  But look at the bigger picture.

If this kind of drone weapon or cruise missile has been perfected, think of all the places here in Washington, D.C., or around the country where the same weapon could be deployed.  One of these weapons fired from somewhere in Mexico could hit refineries in Texas or Louisiana.  Or one of the many massive oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

The bottom line is that this attack comes at a time when many young Americans seem to believe that the natural order of the world is peace.  They are being taught that the country of their birth is evil.

The world is in fact becoming more dangerous by the day.  The likelihood of unimaginable headlines in the months and years ahead, regardless of who is president, grows by the hour.

Confronting China

As you know, I am a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, appointed by President Trump and Vice President Pence.  The Commission has asked me to take the lead on Communist China's repression of religious liberty.

Last week, I hosted a webinar that went into great detail about what the communist regime is doing, which in total amounts to a war on religion, including against Christians.

Today, the Commission released a new report on how China is using technology to take religious repression to another level.  In our press release announcing this important report, I said:

"We are deeply disturbed by the Chinese government's misuse of technology to create a dystopian surveillance state, one that particularly targets religious communities.  We urge the U.S. government and American businesses to take steps to ensure that American technological advances are not being used by Chinese authorities to suppress religious freedom and related human rights."
