Team --

Listen, I know Democrats had hoped Tuesday night would be decided early and the Democrats would beat Donald Trump in a landslide and win a big Senate majority. But this is still a very divided country, and so it shouldn't be shocking that we are here, two days later, waiting to find out the outcome in both the race for president and Senate control.

Let's be clear -- Joe Biden is going to win when all the votes are counted. Donald Trump may never concede, but the Constitution does not require a concession speech. Joe Biden is going to be our next president, and when all the counting is done, his popular vote and electoral college margins may be pretty substantial.

In the Senate, it looks like we are headed to two Georgia run-offs in January. You can be sure that I'll be asking for your help on these races soon, but for today, let me just say that while I'm disappointed we didn't win in places like Texas and Iowa and Kansas, I'm still thrilled that we picked up seats and still have a path to the majority.

The truth is, this country is hurting. Millions of people have seen their wages frozen, their chance at the American dream stunted, and their entire way of life upended. History tells us that demagogues thrive under these circumstances, and this explains why Donald Trump and his movement still have staying power. There likely will not be, in our lifetime, an American epiphany, when everyone comes together to support multiculturalism and inclusion and the right to health care and adequate education. No, those that preach hate and division will always have an ample following in our beautiful but flawed nation.

Our fight for justice and equity is permanent. We won more than we lost in 2020, but no one should think that even had we won everything, we could pack up our movement and go home. No, the fight continues.

We accomplished a lot Tuesday night. Beating Donald Trump in a free and fair election is a giant moral and political victory. Don't downplay this achievement.

In just two cycles, we've flipped both Senate seats in Arizona, and my great friend Mark Kelly is heading to the Senate. That's incredible as well.

Now, we turn our attention to the next fight -- the Georgia special elections. Because those who favor justice and equality never give up and never stop fighting. Never.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
