In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Dr. Fauci delivered a grim warning: “All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. [The U.S.] could not possibly be positioned more poorly.”
No matter who is announced as the winner of the presidential election, we’re in trouble -- because Trump has threatened to fire Dr. Fauci, our nation’s top infectious disease expert, just as we head into what’s shaping up to be the most devastating period of the pandemic for our country thus far.
Dr. Fauci has done nothing except prioritize the health of the American people, having led our nation’s COVID response to the best of his ability in an administration dead-set on undermining him. We’ve already lost over 230,000 American lives due to Trump’s abysmal pandemic response. But if the president uses his lame duck period to oust our most trusted scientific leader out of vengeance, we could see COVID-19 wreak even more unimaginable damage on our nation.
