Winnipeg fire paramedics threatened with machete by man they were trying to help

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service who were trying to help him. Winnipeg police said officers were called to a home in the 300-block of Alfred Avenue around 4:20 a.m. where WFPS were responding to a 50-year-old man who was having a medical emergency.

Community paramedics will be deployed to deal with Ottawa's growing long-term care wait lists

A program pioneered by community paramedics in Renfrew County is being adapted province-wide to help people waiting for long-term care to stay safely in their homes. Ottawa and Renfrew County are among five communities across the province that will be part of the first phase of the new Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care program announced by Long-term Care Minister Dr. Merrilee Fullerton Friday.

Paramedic students test new-age ultrasound tech

Second-year paramedic students at Medicine Hat College were able to get first-hand training with cutting-edge equipment. The students spent classroom time working with handheld ultrasound equipment, using the gear on a peer volunteer. While practising, the students looked for health versions of different organs.

No charges in collision between ambulance and pedestrian, OPP report

North Bay OPP say no charges will be laid after a collision last week that involved a pedestrian stepping in front of an ambulance. Late in the evening on Friday, provincial and city police responded to a report of a pedestrian jumping into traffic on Highway 17, just east of the hospital in North Bay. Not long after, the pedestrian was struck after stepping in front of an eastbound ambulance, whose driver was not able to avoid the collision.

3 charged in Wednesday collision involving ambulance

Charges have been laid against three from outside of Prince George who collided with an ambulance on Wednesday. 34-year-old Jocelyn Rae Wood of Chetwynd, BC has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, failing to stop after an accident, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Ottawa Paramedic Service

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Ottawa Paramedic Service after two paramedics tested positive last week, according to a statement from the city on Thursday. Anthony Di Monte, the city's general manager for emergency and protective services, first alerted council to the outbreak in a memo on Wednesday, saying OPH had declared the outbreak based on two related cases, but that COVID-19 was "not widespread throughout the workplace."
