Hello John,

Amid the flurry of news alerts and other pressing matters related to the election cycle, I wanted to take a minute to remind you about our Fall Gala + Leadership Awards, coming up exactly 2 weeks from today on November 19.

I know this is an uncertain time as we await final results on several key races and initiatives, and stress levels are running high. At the same time, a little R&R might be just what we need during this time of great change and opportunity.

The Fall Gala is going to be our time to relax, celebrate, and show off some glam (if that’s your thing), all while honoring the achievements of our movement and some incredible housing warriors who’ve gone that extra mile advancing housing justice.

This event is responsibly virtual-yet-connected, and will feature a full program for our enjoyment and reflection:

  • Award Honorees: NPH holds a long tradition of recognizing the work of affordable housing giants who’ve taken a decisive lead in effecting real change. This year, we hope you’ll join us in honoring Linda Gardner, formerly of Alameda County Housing and Community Development Department; Don Stump, formerly of Christian Church Homes; and the Steering Committee members of the Emerging Leaders Peer Network (ELPN). Get all the inspiring details about our awardees here.

  • Recognition of frontline workers and BAHIP: Among the COVID-19 pandemic and recent racial justice uprisings, some of our work is more urgent than ever. This is why we’ll be honoring the critical work of affordable housing frontline workers, who continue to ensure residents remain safe and housed, as well as BAHIP (Bay Area Housing Internship Program), which has prioritized the important work of racial equity and inclusion in our industry.

  • "Housers Only" Cocktail/Mocktail: After a long year and so much work ahead, let’s relax and have a drink, housers style! Our Fall Gala beverage is one way we’re making this event extra special, and besides, we think you deserve it! So make time during the Gala to head to your kitchen and freshly prepare an Our Movement, Our Momint Mojito! (view video recipe!)

Our Movement, Our MoMint Mojito
3 mint leaves
1/2 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces white rum (need a mocktail? Pass on the rum and continue the recipe!)
3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
Club soda, to top
Garnish: mint sprig
Garnish: lime wheel

  • Excellent live performances  from Bay Area musicians and artists! Details coming soon!

  • Dedicated community space for sharing! We’ll be able to chat, give shout outs and comments, and just appreciate each other.

Hurry! Registration closes November 9!

In Memoriam

With hearts full of sadness but also appreciation, NPH is proud that our Fall Gala will take time to honor the life and work of John Stewart, chairman and founder of The John Stewart Company, JSCo, who passed away on September 5 after a long battle with cancer.

John made significant contributions to the affordable housing community and will be sincerely missed. Read more about John.

I feel honored that I got to prepare this very special event just for you. I look forward to the spirit of support and commitment to justice that we foster in each other whenever we come together as a movement. See you at the Gala!
