Voting While Black

Dear John,

While millions of votes are still being counted, Facebook and Twitter are allowing Donald Trump to spread countless lies and conspiracy theories about the election on social media. Demand Twitter and Facebook immediately #SuspendTrump and stop the spread of misinformation.

Take action

In the past 24 hours, Trump has gone on a warpath on Twitter and Facebook--posting ballot suppression and election misinformation and alleging that the election is being stolen from him --with each post and tweet reaching millions before the social media platforms take action. The truth is that Twitter and Facebook have had years to ban Trump and fix the way lies, hate, and election misinformation spread on their platforms, but the best solution they’ve created is a small label stating that Donald Trump’s factually inaccurate posts are “misleading.” That’s why it’s time to #SuspendTrump until all votes are counted-- Facebook and Twitter are not taking action quickly enough and Trump’s lies are allowed to be reposted thousands of times before they’re labeled as misinformation. With a historic election still in limbo, this is not enough, and the consequences of that failure could be devastating for our democracy and deadly for people close to the counting process.

Color Of Change has worked tirelessly to ensure these companies stop the spread of misinformation. The only reason Twitter and Facebook have implemented misinformation labeling at all is because of the advocacy of Color Of Change members. And our staff has been in constant contact with Twitter since last night, pushing them throughout this election to take down misinformation from Trump and his surrogates.

Facebook and Twitter have a duty to stop Trump’s misinformation on the platform, tell them to #SuspendTrump until all votes are counted! The voters should determine this election, not misinformation.

John, demand Twitter and Facebook immediately suspend Trump’s accounts until all votes are counted.

Until justice is real,
