Dear Friend,

Donald Trump is literally trying to "stop the count," because he is behind
in electoral votes and trailing Joe Biden by 3.5 million votes
nationally.^1

Trump has not only deployed a legal team to Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and
other swing states to throw out as many ballots as possible, but he’s
encouraged his followers to gather at vote-counting places and demand that
counting be stopped where he is ahead.^2,3

We must protect our right to vote—and this is what Demand Progress was
made for. We have spent a decade fighting for a government that is
accountable to the people. We work with policy and legal experts inside
Capitol Hill and in the states, as well as mobilizing the grassroots of
this country to prevent Trump and his army of lawyers and right-wing goons
from stealing the election.

Right now, eyes are on Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, and Georgia as they
count the ballots that are still coming in.

Trump already succeeded in stopping hundreds of thousands of ballots from
being counted by installing Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to slow down
the mail. The USPS says that ballots that are legitimate and eligible to
be counted are still arriving at boards of election across the nation, and
we know that as many as 7% of all mail-in ballots didn’t reach their
destination in time to be counted for this election.^4 It’s voter
suppression of massive proportion.

Now Trump is suing Pennsylvania to stop the count even though the courts
have already said the state can include ballots postmarked by November
3.^5 He’s suing for a recount in Wisconsin, and is contesting ballots in
Georgia and Michigan as well.^6

Meanwhile, there have been mobs of people congregating at vote-tallying
centers in Detroit and Phoenix, yelling, “Stop the count” and trying to
intimidate poll workers into subverting our democracy.^7

[ [link removed] ]The fight for our democracy is on. Will you donate?

Trump has said over and over again that he wants all mail-in ballots to be
considered invalid.^8 And he’s counting on his new Supreme Court justice,
Amy Coney Barrett, to deliver the presidency to him.

Let’s be clear what we’re talking about. In North Carolina, a million
ballots were mailed in.^9 In Florida, more than 4.5 million ballots have
been returned.^10 In Wisconsin, close to 2 million ballots have been
returned.^11 These are all battleground states where the margin of victory
will be in the thousands, not millions.

This is not an exaggeration: If Trump succeeds in winning by throwing out
millions of ballots, he will have succeeded in engineering a coup of the
American government.

We need to organize millions of voices ready to declare that they won’t
stand for their votes being discarded. This is the campaign of our
democracy, and it’s all hands on deck.

[ [link removed] ]We’re starting by driving tens of thousands of emails to election
officials and Congress. calling on them to protect every single vote. Will
you chip in?

Thanks for standing with us.

Robert Cruickshank,
Demand Progress
