Dr. Erin Maughan receives School Health Leader Award From APHA

NASN Director of Research, Erin D. Maughan, PhD, MS, RN, PHNA-BC, FNASN, FAAN, is the recipient of the American Public Health Association’s School Health Education and Services 2020 School Health Leader Award. Dr. Maughan is being recognized as a school health professional who shows evidence of significant leadership and contributions in the areas of school health services, program development, research and/or advocacy. Dr. Maughan is recognized for her contributions to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations and improving school-age children’s health around the word through research and data.

However, the delegation of nursing tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) is a complicated and challenging process for school nurses. Learn how delegation of nursing tasks in the school setting can serve to help meet these students’ healthcare needs. NEW Improving Care Coordination for Students with Chronic Health Conditions Toolkit
|
|
Care Coordination is one of the five principles in NASN’S Framework for 21st Century School Nursing PracticeTM. In April 2018, NASN convened a roundtable to identify key components of a collaborative approach to manage chronic health conditions in school-age children. The resulting white paper, Translating Strategies into Actions to Improve Care Coordination for Students with Chronic Health Conditions, ended with a call to action for meeting participants to work together in the school community and a call to action for NASN to develop additional tools and resources to support the school nurse role in leading care coordination for students with chronic health conditions. This toolkit answers that call with multiple resources such as fact sheets, sample tools, supplemental wellness policy language.
