Like many of you, I have mixed emotions about the election results.

Dear Friend,

First and foremost, I want to thank you for your support in our overwhelming victory on Tuesday night.

Representing the Bronx and Westchester has been the honor of my life so far, and I want all of you to know that no matter who you are or what your political affiliation is, I represent you and you can always count on me for that.

Like many of you, I have mixed emotions about the broader election results. I am, of course, thrilled that once all the votes are counted, Joe Biden will beat Trump. I am also happy that the Biden/Harris ticket received almost 300,000 votes on the Working Families Party Line in New York.

But at the same time, I am also left wondering how so many people could see the racism, the sexism, the xenophobia of this president, watch his lack of response to COVID-19, and his agenda that prioritizes the wealthy over working people, and still vote for him? I am left wondering how Democrats, with all of this going on around us, could lose so many winnable Senate and House races?

And what those results say to me is that it is more clear than ever that the Democratic Party is lacking the vision and leadership required in this moment.

It is not just enough to be anti-Trump, or for our candidates to have a D next to their name on the ballot. We need to compete for votes with real vision and real leadership. We need to run on an agenda that lifts up the working people of this country.

So where do we go from here?

First, I’ll go back to the New York State Senate more determined than ever to take on the public health and economic crises caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With a divided Washington, D.C., we can’t count on the federal government to save us, and that means New York must raise the revenue we need to fund things that matter to us like our schools, hospitals, mental health, and COVID recovery.

But there is also unfinished business in this election I want to talk to you about. There’s still at least one more race up for grabs in the United States Senate, and we all have a role to play in its outcome. So I am asking:

Can you split a contribution — of any amount you can afford — between my campaign and Raphael Warnock’s run-off campaign for U.S. Senate in Georgia? This is important. ([link removed])

Tuesday night was just the beginning. And I look forward to working with all of you in the important fights ahead.

Thank you. Be safe. And be well.
