He is known for his conviction that a company needs to be driven by a “sense of purpose, not a sense of profits.” Frazier has helped Merck & Co., Inc. find a balance between profitability and giving back.

Given his outspoken commitment to corporate responsibility, it was newsworthy but not surprising when Frazier stepped down from the White House’s American Manufacturing Council after President Trump’s comments that there were very fine people on both sides of the white supremacist rally and counter-protest in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. Frazier’s action resulted in other corporate leaders following his lead, and the ultimate disbanding of the council.

More recently, following the tragic murder of George Floyd, Frazier called for unity in the face of injustice, while making a strong statement that George Floyd “could be me or any other African American man” and offering up concrete actions the business community should take, such as addressing joblessness.

Frazier has a long legacy of courage against hate. As a lawyer he was a leader on the team that secured the release and acquittal of James “Bo” Cochran, who had been on death row after being falsely convicted of murder. Frazier considers this the high point of his legal career.

He has publicly committed that whenever Merck & Co., Inc. is ready to launch its COVID vaccine, which is still in clinical trials to ensure quality and safety, it will seek to provide broad, equitable, affordable access around the world.

ADL is proud to recognize Frazier at Never Is Now, following previous Courage Against Hate honorees Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO and Hamdi Ulukaya, Chobani’s Founder and CEO. The award honors visionary leaders who promote understanding and unity in a complex world and exemplify ADL’s core values, including courage, collaboration, inclusion, and integrity.

Introducing Frazier as this year’s honoree will be Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, the Yale School of Management’s Senior Associate Dean for Leadership Studies and Lester Crown Professor of Leadership Practice and founder of the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute, the world’s first “CEO College.” Sonnenfeld has been named one of the world’s most influential business school professors by Business Week.

We hope you’ll join Ken Frazier, as well as community leaders, students, academics and business leaders from across the county for this year’s Summit. You will be inspired, empowered and challenged by our unmatched lineup of speakers and sessions to combat the ever-present challenges of antisemitism, bigotry and hate.
