A free virtual event on Friday; RSVP now

Dear Reader,

America is still waiting for every vote to be counted, but how did the voting process actually go in this election? Did the pandemic hinder or help people’s access to the ballot? And how will the way we voted this year (and the challenges that some voters faced) affect the ultimate outcome?

We’ve gathered reporters and experts from ProPublica’s Electionland to help you make sense of how the voting process went for America. From problems with mail-in ballots to voter intimidation at the polls, they’ll explain which parts of this election were new — and what’s pretty normal.

Panelists will also explain:

  • How the process of counting absentee ballots works exactly
  • Why we should not be distracted by attempts to intimidate voters
  • What this election will actually come down to
  • Why, despite everything, voting in 2020 was smoother than in previous years

On Election Day and throughout the early voting period, Electionland monitored voting by leveraging data, technology and hundreds of coordinated journalists across the country, giving ProPublica and partners a uniquely comprehensive picture of how America voted.

Trey Grayson, former Kentucky secretary of state and attorney; Jessica Huseman, ProPublica reporter; Marcia Johnson-Blanco, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law Voting Rights Project co-director; and Tammy Patrick, Democracy Fund senior adviser of elections, will also answer your questions in a conversation moderated by Electionland’s partner manager, Rachel Glickhouse.
