John,
This is awful. There are still lots of unknowns in this election and votes to be counted, but one thing we do know is Lindsey Graham, one of the worst enemies of Internet freedom in the Senate, just won his re-election.1
Lindsey Graham is the lead author of the EARN IT Act, which would lead to massive censorship and surveillance.2 He sponsored another bill that would force companies to install government eavesdropping backdoors into all our phones and computers.3
And he’s voted again and again against net neutrality.4
Now that we know for sure that Graham will continue to be the Chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, we’re more concerned than ever before that he will succeed in ramming through one of his terrible pieces of legislation to kill off the open Internet and let the government spy on all of us more than they already do.
Will you chip in $5 (or more!) today toward our war chest to stop legislation that would open the floodgates for Internet censorship and surveillance?
DONATE
I know today is hard. I know we’re all anxious. It feels like all we can do is stress eat and keep clicking refresh while the votes are counted.
But the reality is that no matter what happens in this election, we are going to have major battles to fight to defend our most basic rights in the digital age from corrupt politicians of both parties.
If you understand why those fights are important, then one thing you can do today is make a donation to support our crucial organizing work on these issues.
It makes a difference. We’ll keep fighting no matter what.
Thanks for all you do,
-Evan at Fight for the Future
P.S. If you can’t donate today, we understand. Another productive thing you can do is share around this site we built: countallthevotes.us, which will have a continuously updated click-to-call tool to direct phone calls to key officials who can ensure that every eligible vote is properly counted.
