Friends,
It’s Election Week, and what a week it’s been! We are still awaiting the results of Tuesday’s election.
As ballots continue to be counted, and we wait to see the final results of this election, I’ll share some highlights from last week.
Getting out the vote
Virginians turned out in record numbers in this election. As one of the first states to begin early voting, we helped to lead the charge for voter turnout across the country in this historic election.
During this period of early voting, I visited polling locations to thank voters for their essential participation in this democratic process. And, along with some other stellar volunteers, I helped drop campaign literature around Central Virginia for our Congressional candidates. These contactless efforts allowed us to continue to reach voters at their doors in a safe manner.
Town Halls
On the night of the election, I joined two nationwide virtual town halls to share the good work taking place in Virginia, as we expanded voting access and enabled safe voting opportunities during this pandemic. Last night, I participated in another virtual Town Hall, organized by Indiaspora, to engage in the 2020 Post-Election Analysis. This extensive program brought together many elected officials, organizers, as well as political and policy experts.
Tonight, I am hosting a Post Election Town Hall via Zoom to discuss election results, how Virginia kept voting safe and secure, and the implementation of early voting and social distancing in Virginia along with any other concerns shared by our panelists. We will be joined by Attorney General Mark Herring and state Senator Jennifer McClellan. RSVP here: [link removed]
Closing thoughts
Thank you to everyone who made their voice heard and voted in this historic election. The right to vote is an essential cornerstone of our democracy, and the high participation numbers show that record numbers of voters are engaging in our political process. We should all be proud of how we are transforming engagement and participation in the Commonwealth.
