There are plenty of votes that still have to be counted -- yet Trump is already trying to use the media to claim victory.

Going into Election Week, we knew that a hefty responsibility would be falling upon the media; news outlets would have to constantly battle the current president’s deluge of desperate lies. “That TV networks bear this burden is partly a symptom of the country’s broken information culture,” The New York Times explains, “in which partisan news sources and specious social media rumors can overwhelm careful journalism.”

For major news networks, “combating misinformation -- be it from online mischief-makers or falsehoods from the commander in chief -- is a priority, particularly in educating Americans that any delays in declaring a victor stem from care, not chicanery.”

Lo and behold, that’s exactly what the media is now having to do, since Trump is trying to spin the VERY NORMAL OCCURRENCE of votes still needing to be counted days after the election as a symptom of voter fraud. And despite the media having made a pledge to not declare premature victory for either side, some news outlets are already feeding Trump’s ego with lies -- at the expense of our democracy.

When Democrats Turn Out is committed to drowning out Trump’s crying-wolf with assurances that we can trust the democratic process to do its job -- especially given that voters across the country have done their part in showing up in record numbers this election. Right now, we’re working around the clock to demand that every single vote be counted before a victor is declared -- but we’re running short of the funds we need to properly execute our efforts.

The truth is, if we don’t raise another $4,348 by midnight, we won’t have the resources we need to shine a light on the darkness of Trump’s misinformation -- and we could see him steal what SHOULD be a Biden win from right under our noses.

 

You know we can’t let that happen. After all of the hard work Democrats have put in to turn out and exile Trump from office, the least we can do is ensure that the most basic part of our electoral process -- ensuring that those votes are actually counted -- is respected. We refuse to allow Trump to once again weaponize misinformation to steal another four years in power -- which is why we’re asking you to contribute whatever you can now, with everything on the line, to protect our democracy from the forces that threaten it. We can ensure that the blue wave makes it to Washington, but only with your help.
