Hi John,

In two hours, at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET we will host a brief, insider call with RepresentUs experts Josh Silver, Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Kaplan, VP of Policy and Campaigns, and Janice Periquet, VP of Development, for an update on the election, results, remaining threats, and what it all means. Already RSVP'd? Share this link with your networks so they can join the call, too.

President Trump made a preemptive declaration of victory and is filing lawsuits to stop vote counting in states where he’s losing ground, all while calling for counting to continue in states where he’s gaining. He continues to allege “voter fraud” where it doesn’t exist, but the election has been relatively peaceful and calm. It is expected that Joe Biden will prevail, but he has not declared victory, choosing instead to support the counting of more votes. Wisconsin will likely have a recount, since the margin of victory is less than 1%, and we may see recounts in other states, as well.

We'll discuss all these issues, plus the Senate races and what the various potential election outcomes mean for democracy reform going forward. One thing is certain: the past few years have shined a bright light on the deep dysfunction that plagues American politics, and the utmost importance of passing sweeping democracy reforms in order to restore integrity, moderation, and sanity to a system that has gone off the rails.

I hope you’ll join us. The more the merrier… feel free to share this link with friends and family looking for the latest updates on the election and the anti-corruption movement.

See you soon.

John —

I’m writing to invite you to a “war room” meeting tomorrow, Thursday at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET to discuss President Trump’s effort to pre-emptively declare victory before the votes are counted. This is an unprecedented move by an American president — but fortunately, we’ve been preparing for it for months.

Tomorrow, we will discuss the handful of scenarios that could unfold — the remaining states that are counting ballots, the recounts, the courts, how this will play out, and how we’re making sure that the will of the voters decides the outcome of this election.

There is some good news: The media is taking a calm approach, playing down the President’s antics, and so far it is helping keep things steady. Numerous Republican leaders have denounced the President’s actions.

Tomorrow, we’ll outline key milestones between now and Inauguration Day (January 20, 2021) and where things could go wrong. We won’t sugarcoat, and we will be presenting the most need-to-know situational realities and opportunities to protect and restore our democracy.

The call will be led by Josh Silver, Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Kaplan, VP of Policy and Campaigns, and Janice Periquet, VP of Development.

This isn’t about partisanship: It’s about protecting our democratic institutions and making sure votes are counted.

RSVP – Thursday, November 5th at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET – Defend Democracy Election Update call.

I’ll be in touch with more soon. See below for an update on which anti-corruption campaigns prevailed last night.

Our movement is simply crushing it in our effort to protect the election. Thank you for being part of it.

State and Local Reform Snapshot

Several democracy reform ballot measures emerged victorious last night. Fair Maps Virginia won an anti-gerrymandering ballot measure. Ranked Choice Voting won in cities in Minnesota (Bloomington & Minnetonka), California (Eureka & Albany), as well as Boulder, Colorado. Campaign finance reform won in Oregon. Voters in North Dakota and Arkansas defeated legislative attempts to attack the ballot initiative process. In St. Louis, “approval voting” emerged victorious thanks to the organization STL Approves. We’ll have to wait a week or so for results from Alaska. Get the most up-to-date statewide democracy reform results at our 2020 Campaigns Hub.
