On behalf of the entire team at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), I want to thank you for your continued support of our mission to end sexual exploitation. Thanks to your partnership, we have been able to see some tremendous victories and build momentum for the movement, even during this unexpected year of global crisis and confusion.

 

There is so much to be excited about, so that is why we want to reach out to you to let you know some of the items we are working on and that you helped make possible.

 

Here are some recent highlights:

The EARN IT Act continues to gain traction with Congress. On the heels of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s unanimous approval in July of a stronger version of the NCOSE-backed EARN IT Act, the House version of the EARN IT Act was introduced in late September. The EARN IT Act ([link removed]) is the strongest piece of legislation that can confront the explosion of online child sexual abuse material. If passed, Big Tech will finally be held legally accountable to report the sexual abuse of children online.

Great hope emerges in raising global awareness on the harms of prostitution and pornography. In September, the International Centre on Sexual Exploitation (ICOSE) hosted international networking meetings with advocates from eight different countries (Canada, Mexico, England, Nigeria, South Africa, and India to name a few) to discuss the harms of sexual exploitation and abuse. In October a campaign on the Harms of Pornography was launched in Liberia ([link removed]). By standing together with countless others, we are making a worldwide impact to hopefully bring about the demise of online pornography and sexual exploitation!

The NCOSE Law Center makes a direct strike against the systems that allow and uphold sexual exploitation with two new groundbreaking cases. Occasionally, NCOSE gets a landmark opportunity that has the potential to change the world. We've recently received two of them. In the first opportunity, NCOSE is serving as a co-counsel in a lawsuit, Charleston v. State of Nevada ([link removed]) that could make a dramatic difference for countless individuals trapped in prostitution and sex trafficking. The case will be argued by NCOSE before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on December 9th.

The second opportunity is a lawsuit is on behalf of a young woman, Jane Doe, who, after being lured and groomed by the false promises of a modeling contract, was sold into sex trafficking. Her subsequent abuse was then immortalized through pornography websites. The NCOSE Law Center lawsuit, Jane Doe v. Cissy Steele, et al., ([link removed]) is the first federal lawsuit against a pornography producer and an online pornography website for federal anti-trafficking violations.

NCOSE goes to Hollywood! We are partnering with One Door Studios ([link removed]) in the development of the screenplay for their latest film, Calculated, which deals with a young protagonist confronted with the dark world of sex trafficking. While the movie is fictional, NCOSE is working closely the studio to ensure the trials the protagonist endures remain as accurate as possible, without excessive exaggeration or other misrepresentations.

NCOSE in the News. Just in September alone, NCOSE had nearly 90 pieces of coverage and/or media interviews, including placements, mentions, and interviews with significant media outlets/online audience such as  NBC News ([link removed]), Newsweek ([link removed]), Variety ([link removed]), Today ([link removed]), Chicago Tribune ([link removed]), NY Daily News ([link removed]), The Epoch Times ([link removed]), International Business Times ([link removed]), Reuters ([link removed]), Rolling Stone ([link removed]), Yahoo News ([link removed]), and more.
