“As the norms get shattered, he becomes more and more brazen about these norms, and I think that’s why it’s so essential to enforce these norms.”
Deepak Gupta, one of the lawyers working with CREW on our emoluments lawsuit against President Trump, was on the Rachel Maddow Show discussing Friday’s big victory.
Click here to watch Deepak discuss what this decision means for our fight against Trump’s corruption.
President Trump’s continued failure to divest from his private business interests, from the moment he took office to today, has opened the door to corruption and conflicts of interest on a daily basis, leaving the American people in doubt about whether his decisions on serious issues are in the best interests of the country, or in his own financial interest.
Friday’s decision gives us another path to holding President Trump accountable for his unconstitutional corruption, and we’ll continue the fight for as long as it takes.

This is huge.
On President Trump’s first day in the Oval Office, CREW filed our historic emoluments lawsuit, CREW v. Trump, challenging President Trump’s systematic violations of the Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution.
Nearly two years ago, the case was dismissed, but we appealed that decision and made our case in court last October.
Today, we won our appeal. Read our statement about today’s victory here.
The foreign and domestic Emoluments Clauses represent a key safeguard against corruption and undue influence over the president. We never imagined we’d need to sue the president for such egregious violations of the Constitution, but when it became clear that President Trump wasn’t going to take steps to prevent unconstitutional conflicts of interest and corruption, we sued him.
This case is far from over, but today is a big victory in our fight to defend the Constitution. For more, read our statement.
Over the past two and a half years, we have seen President Trump run roughshod over the Constitution, effectively declaring he was open for business for governments and public officials to pay him money in an attempt to influence him, just as we had feared when he failed to divest from his businesses. The pursuit of justice in this case has taken time, but today’s ruling is a crucial step towards stopping Trump’s rampant corruption at long last.
