The Day After The Election

Well, it's over. Almost.  We have some things to be grateful for today. Roy Cooper and Josh Stein have won. Joe Biden may win and relieve us of the Trump nightmare.  Jonathan Barfield won, and we now have a Democratic majority on the School Board. Some other candidates are behind based on today's count, but may turn things around as absentee ballots arrive. I count Chief Justice Cheri Beasley in this category along with Supreme Court candidate Lucy Inman.  It's a stretch, but even Cal Cunningham's apparent loss to Thom Tillis by 100,000 votes could be affected by the many absentee battles still outstanding.

To our candidates, Thank You. We had excellent candidates in every race.  You worked hard, raised money and assembled effective teams.  I think I speak for all of us when I say that we have no regrets about supporting all of the candidates who ran, and each of you will be a better candidate next time you run.

To everyone, please help our candidates remove signs:  We need your help to clean up our county after the election by removing campaign signs.  Starting with your precinct polling place, please fill up your trunk (or truck!) with Democratic signs and bring the signs to the Campaign Office at 5041 New Center Drive on Saturday November 7 and Sunday November 8 between noon and 5 pm.  We will return signs to candidates who want them and toss signs from candidates who don’t want them.  Signs for statewide candidates can go directly to the dumpster. Please note that this year we have a separate recycling dumpster for metal stands only. Signs for local candidates should be stacked by candidate against the wall behind the back corner of the building (the area closest to the dumpster). New Hanover County residents will thank you for this, as will our hard-working candidates.

Best,

Richard Poole, Chair
