The New York Times: “Once the results are in? Once the nation has picked a president, 35 senators and 435 representatives, not to mention state and local officials and the results of referendums? The election is just a beginning.”
Donald Trump and his Republican loyalists tried their best to plant seeds of hate throughout this election. The GOP worked tirelessly to discourage voting and prevent ballots from being counted. Trump celebrated acts of violence against any who didn’t support him. And the Trump administration openly gave up on containing the coronavirus as deaths surged across the country.
Americans are trying their best to take their country back. Democratic officials across states found ways to make it easier to vote than ever before, and even as the pandemic raged on, millions of Americans showed out in record numbers to vote by mail and in person.
“This nation was struggling to address a range of long-term problems before Mr. Trump’s victory in 2016. Over the past four years, those challenges have only increased, in part because Mr. Trump has failed to understand the work of a president,” the New York Times reported. Now, the country has a chance to start over.
At When Democrats Turn Out, we want to see Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats in Congress not only lead, but govern fairly in the means necessary to not only erase Trump’s legacy, or the last impacts of his presidency, but improve the lives of ALL Americans. If we want our priorities to have a place in this forming government, we need to rebuild our funds as quickly as possible.
