Friend,

Last night was a long one as we watched numbers coming in from
across the country.

On a grand level, elections are the workings of our democracy of
the people, by the people and for the people. But for those of us
making phone calls to voters, donating to candidates and closely
watching the elections, it's nerve-racking.

As I awaited the first returns last night, I reflected back to
my first run for Congress in 2012. I went into that Election Day
not at all confident I would win -- it was a heck of a long shot.
This year, I knew my chances were much better, and when the first
returns hit, I wasn't thinking so much about my own election, but
about what was happening all across the country. As Joe Biden
said, "the soul of our nation was at stake."

We won't know the final national results for days, maybe even
weeks, and we didn't love everything we saw. But what we do know
is that Americans showed up to vote in record numbers. And thank
God they did. The historic turnout was a spectacular display of
patriotism -- people yearning to be heard. People fighting for our
democracy.

I want to thank each and every one of you for never losing hope,
never losing faith, and for never doubting that your vote, your
voice, can make a difference. If you are reading this email, it's
because you care fiercely about the future of our nation and our
world and you have given all you can to make a difference.

Health care was on the ballot. The economy was on the ballot.
Equality was on the ballot. Justice was on the ballot. The fate
of the planet was on the ballot. America's standing in the world
was on the ballot.

Thank you for standing up and for standing with me. Thank you
for the honor of another term in Congress. I am grateful for your
support and I promise to continue to serve with a spirit of
collaboration, with conscience and with compassion.

Scott
