This is a democracy – We count every vote.
With millions of ballots yet to be counted across the country, the election for president is still too close to call. While the stakes in this election are undeniable, this is part of the normal democratic process in our country.
Unfortunately, last night the President of the United States falsely claimed he had won the election, and then demanded that votes stop being counted. But we live in a democracy, where voters decide who wins elections, not politicians.
The President’s statements are outrageous. This election nearly 100 million voters cast their ballots by mail, and these voters have the constitutional right to have their vote counted just like everyone else. Period.
Never before in our history has the President of the United States sought to deny American’s their voice in the presidential election. Ironically, if Donald Trump got his wish and we stopped counting ballots right now, Joe Biden would be the next President of the United States. But that’s not what we stand for – we count every vote.
Together we must stand firm to defend our democracy and demand that every vote be counted.
Large mobilizations today and on November 7
CFT local unions throughout the state are helping to organize demonstrations both today and on November 7, with large rallies planned in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Look for one of the protests in your area at protecttheresults.com and then contact your local union to join organizing efforts. Prop. 15 still too close to call
Thanks again to every CFT member who took part in the effort to pass Prop. 15. During the historic campaign we stood up to some of the wealthiest corporations in the country to close unfair commercial property tax loopholes and bring essential resources to our schools and our communities.
With millions of votes still to be counted in California, Prop. 15 is currently trailing by approximately 400,000 votes. Just as in the presidential election it may take some time to count all of the remaining votes, so stay tuned!
