this race taught me about persistence, resilience, and hope for a better DC

It's impossible to know what's going to happen in a 23-candidate election...

This morning, we didn't wake up to the result we wanted, John. Here's a link to the final results

But, I wanted to reach out one more time and thank you for everything you've done as a supporter of our movement and our fight for a more equitable DC.

This year and this election have taught me so much about persistence, resilience, and sacrifice. Pounding the pavement with our volunteers. Sweating through masks and shirts. Marching with our friends. Watching a turbulent national landscape. All while trying to maintain our families and personal sanity.

But after this race, and this year, I know one thing for sure -- I'm more inspired by the people of all 8 Wards of DC than I have ever been. You've shared innovative ideas for how to improve DC that have given me great hope for the future.

Together, we took to the streets to protest. Then we took to the streets to Get Out The Vote: This team knocked on over 60,000 doors, made 20,000 calls, and texted 200,000 voters.

Remember -- everything we fought for this year doesn't go away just because we didn't get the result we wanted:

Ending housing, education, and healthcare disparities doesn't happen in one campaign or during one DC Council term. I'm in these fights for the long haul. And as a DC Native -- born and bred, I know where I'll be dedicated to making sure we continue to make progress on these issues as an advocate and a community member. I'm not going anywhere.

This morning I spoke to Christina Henderson and congratulated her on her win. She's a brilliant, thoughtful, empathetic leader, who we should all be proud to support as our newest At-Large Councilmember.

Thank you for everything. I couldn't have done this without you.

One final note: I would love to talk. Please feel free to e-mail me to discuss next steps. [email protected]

Yours humbly,

Marcus
