As the country moves from a dispute about who to vote for to a dispute over whose votes should count, we can't forget that the American people have now gone over 7 months without any relief from Congress.

And the next phase of the crisis is about to hit: without more relief, 40% of all restaurant owners expect their businesses to close by March. 66% of hotels are projected to meet the same fate. And Dr. Fauci, who has previously warned us that "we're in for a whole lot of hurt" because of our failed coronavirus response, now looks like he'll have his worst fears confirmed.

We cannot allow the fight over the election results to distract us from the fight to save American lives and livelihoods. We must demand additional relief from Congress -- if we do, we have a shot at our wish being granted. Nancy Pelosi has reached out to Republicans to try to move negotiations forward, and even Trump has promised that "After the election, we will get the best stimulus package you have ever seen."

But now that it looks like the future of this election is uncertain, Trump and Republicans could tank any shot at a relief deal in a twisted effort to "get back" at the American people. It's disgusting, which is just what we expect from them.

We'll need to take responsibility for getting a deal passed ourselves. We'll need to demand action from Washington, insist on relief for our country's businesses and our fellow citizens, and show the members of this Congress and the next that the American people haven't taken our eye off the ball. There's just one problem: we don't have the money we need to mount such a massive undertaking so soon after the election.

You've been following the pandemic along with the election. You know how bad things really are -- you know we're not "rounding the turn" no matter how many times Trump insists it's true. You know we need to take drastic action to avert disaster: so please, help us take drastic action now.

Please, friend, can you toss in $5, $10, $20, or whatever you can afford to help us demand relief for our country before it's too late? At this rate, even if Joe Biden takes office, there may not be much of a country left for him to govern.
