“To all my friends that are understandably nervous and nail-biting, ain’t nothing happening right now we didn’t plan for.
Breathe into the uncertainty. Allow the process to take its course today.
We got this.”
-Maurice Mitchell, Executive Director of the Working Families Party
We knew this election outcome was going to be uncertain, and that the results wouldn’t come for days. We knew that many states were going to be close and that the historic levels of mail and absentee ballots were going to change things. We know, above all, that our role is to ground and invite new class traitors into our movement.
In these interim days of not knowing, we have some major wins to celebrate, all thanks to grassroots organizing:
- Florida voted to raise the minimum wage
- California voted to enfranchise the formerly incarcerated
- Oregon decriminalized possession of personal use amounts of drugs
- Record numbers of Trans, Non-Binary, and Queer people were elected into office
- Grassroots Latinx Organizing wins step towards safety and repeal of racist 287G program
You may be wondering if it is time to mobilize to protect the election results. Already some coalitions are starting to call for action, and others are calling to stand back. If you’re not sure what to do, follow the lead of local partners and relationships.
We will be learning so much more in the hours and days to come. What we do know is that our partners are calling us into conversation tonight. We’ll be on these calls, and hope you’re there too.
From the Center for Popular Democracy and Center for Popular Democracy Action:
The steps we take in the next days and weeks will determine our future – so it's time to take action and get to work. Join the Center for Popular Democracy & CPD Action the day after the election, Wednesday, November 4th at 7-8:30PM ET.
This national mobilization call serves as a battle cry for activists across the country who are ready to fight for our future. We're bringing thousands of activists together to share urgent updates on what is happening with the 2020 election and determine our mobilization strategy for the days, weeks and months ahead.
From the Frontline:
Tonight at 8:00pm EST; The Working Families Party, The Frontline, Movement for Black Lives Electoral Justice Project, and United We Dream Action believe that Trump’s defeat is inevitable if every vote is counted. We invite you to a tele-townhall to see victory through — to make sure every vote is counted and build momentum for a progressive agenda. Our special guest, Stacey Abrams – a national leader in the fight to make our democracy work for all of us – will help us make sense of this moment and prepare for what’s next.
Reminder: All dues-paying members of RG are invited to an All Member Call this Friday at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT for an hour and a half of grounding, connecting, and orienting to the weeks ahead.
Register here if you are a member.
Become a member or update your membership here, if you aren't already.
