As we wait for the absentee ballots and the final results to come in, I wanted to reach out to thank you for all the hard work and dedication you poured into the 2020 campaign.

I am very confident that when all the votes are counted, Joe Biden will be our next President and Kamala Harris, our next Vice President. I am proud that Maryland voted overwhelmingly for Biden-Harris and was among the first states called for them. It is, of course, outrageous, but wearily predictable that Trump would try to stop the vote count in battleground states before every ballot is counted. We will not let him get away with it. That is not how democracy works in America.

I will confess that I am very disappointed in the overall results in the Senate campaigns. While we are still awaiting final counts in a few key Senate races, as of this moment, the path to a Senate Democratic majority is quickly narrowing. If past is prologue, Senator McConnell will work to block progress on key issues for our country. That is what he and Senate Republicans did to Obama-Biden and what he will attempt to do now. We must do everything in our power to overcome his obstruction, and I will need your continued help as we seek to accomplish our goals.

As we await a final verdict from the American people in the presidential race, we must unite to demand changes in the machinery of our democracy. The very long lines we witnessed, and stories of voter suppression must become a thing of the past. We should be able to unite behind common-sense measures to strengthen our democracy, such as the passage of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, adding more polling locations, expanding the time periods for early voting, making vote-by-mail more readily available, and making Election Day a national holiday.

It won't be easy, but we still have a lot of important work to do together.

Thank you for being a partner in our journey to strengthen our country and build a more perfect union. It should not be this difficult, but we must continue this essential work to save our country and preserve our democracy.
