Dear John,
Over the last few weeks, it has sometimes seemed unlikely that we would wake up this morning seeing victory for the cause of LIFE and religious freedom in Minnesota. While the presidential race is still uncertain,it appears that the pro-life majority in the Minnesota Senate has been maintained!
We are thankful to have played a part in some of the crucial districts where the battle was fought – notably Senate District 58 (Lakeville/Farmington) and Senate District 27 (Austin, Albert Lea), where pro-family candidates notched up commanding victories, in addition to Senate District 34 (Maple Grove/Rogers) and other areas, where we successfully defended long-time pro-life champions who were the targets of unprecedented takeover attempts, pending the outcome of likely court challenges regarding late-received mail-in ballots.
We are also thrilled to see that the pro-life majority in the United States Senate has similarly held strong. What does that mean? It means that at both the national and state levels, there will be a firewall of pro-life and pro-family champions to block pro-abortion and anti-freedom legislation put forward by progressive radicals. This is one of the best results we could have hoped for here in Minnesota!
As I write this, there is still uncertainty in the presidential race. This could be a drawn-out process – coming after a bruising, divisive election. We also see, with sadness, that former Planned Parenthood executive Tina Smith has won reelection to the US Senate for Minnesota. But we are glad to see that pro-family candidates made gains in our state – notably in Congressional District 7 (Western Minnesota), where former Minnesota Senate President Michelle Fischbach ousted 30+ year incumbent Colin Peterson, and hopefully held on in Congressional District 1 (Southern Minnesota), where incumbent Rep. Jim Hagedorn leads in a race that’s too close to call at this time.
During this time of waiting, let’s put away anxiety over the final result in the presidential race, and the as yet undecided state races, and entrust our worries to Christ! ”Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation” (Psalm 146:3).
Instead, in the coming days and weeks, let’s show the love of Christ and the peace that surpasses human understanding to our friends and neighbors who voted differently than we did. ”Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed” (Psalm 34:5). Let’s look to heal divisions, rather than perpetuate them – even as we resolutely stand firm for election integrity in disputed races.
Let’s give thanks that lives will be saved and freedoms protected because of pro-life, pro-family majorities in the Minnesota Senate and the US Senate, which God, in His mercy, has wonderfully provided! And let’s watch and pray for pending results at the state and national levels, rejoicing that no matter who ultimately prevails, “Jesus, the Savior, reigns,…He rules o'er earth and heav'n” (Rejoice, the Lord is King -Charles Wesley).
Rejoicing and watching along with you,
John
P.S. We’ll be closely monitoring the disputed races, both here in Minnesota and nationally, and will keep you informed of the implications for all of us and our families. And we’ll be conferring with allies here and nationally as well, to plan for the battles sure to come in the days ahead as we continue to fight for Life, Family and Freedom.
