The media focuses on the political horse race, the personalities and political attacks, but what really matters are the policies that are at stake and that will have a big impact on the future of our country.

** The U.S. Economy Is Bouncing Back ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Many Americans have suffered from the pandemic lockdowns of this spring. Millions have lost their jobs and many of those who have retained their work have still seen their income and hours cut. But our robust economy is beginning to bounce back. As Axios reports, "The U.S. economy grew at 33.1% annualized pace in the third quarter ([link removed]) ." As our lawmakers continue to negotiate over new stimulus packages, the aid that they provide should be targeted, temporary, and flexible.

** NOW She Tells Us: Harris on Equality and Equity ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
At practically the eleventh hour, when Americans who have not yet voted were preparing to do so, Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris tweeted out a cartoon headlined “Equality vs. Equity.” ([link removed]) It is the most revealing statement made by the Biden campaign. Harris’ tutorial has a condescending, schoolmarmish tone, as might be expected when a candidate instructs the apparently dim voters by means of a cartoon. Harris’ two main points:
* “Equality suggests, ‘oh everyone should get the same amount.’ The problem with that, not everybody’s starting out from the same place.”
* “Equitable treatments means we all end up in the same place”

** Even the Girl Scouts Abandon Justice Barrett ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
The Girl Scouts congratulated Justice Amy Coney Barrett on her confirmation. Then, they deleted the tweet ([link removed]) . Apparently, it is too “partisan” for the Girl Scouts to congratulate Justice Barrett on becoming only the fifth woman ever appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court since 1789.

The tragic irony for our nation’s young girls is that the “too partisan” label runs one way. The Girl Scouts’ organization just hosted an event about encouraging women to run for office—and the panelists were all liberal. They've retweeted Hillary Clinton, thanking her for continuing to lead. Even more on point, in March 2019, the Girl Scouts praised Justices O’Connor, Ginsburg, Sotomayor, and Kagan as inspiring role models who broke gender barriers.

** Presidential Elections ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
The COVID-19 pandemic posed additional challenges for our election processes this year as Americans worked to make voting accessible, fair, secure, and safe. Do you know which of the following statements about the election and pandemic precautions is not true?

A: The U.S. doesn’t have one, single national election, but 51 elections in the states and D.C. to determine who wins the Electoral College.
B: The results of presidential elections are usually finalized on election night or next day.
C: While voter fraud is rare, it’s more common with mail-in voting, which more states are using more heavily this year in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

** Pandemic Highlights Trade-Offs of Government-Mandated Paid Leave Entitlements ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Progressive advocates of a new, government-mandated entitlement to paid family and medical leave argue that the present pandemic highlights the need for such a policy. In their view, “[n]ow, more than ever,” we need “permanent paid leave laws to support workers’ health and economic security for the duration of the pandemic and into the future.” But what the pandemic really highlights are the trade-offs associated with such a policy: Now, more than ever, the costs of a paid leave entitlement are apparent.

** Is Donald Trump the Education President? ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

The President's rhetoric about “patriotic education” and warnings about the education system as a vehicle for left-wing narratives—like the discredited 1619 Project—get him some of his biggest cheers on the campaign stump. It’s that focus that will be the President’s greatest legacy on education, and one that—had it been taken up by establishment Republicans a decade ago—would have made Trump’s ascension to the presidency, with all it represents, unnecessary.

The idea that men—especially white men—are dangerously entitled and controlling is one that pervades our culture today. Now it goes so far as to influence how some instinctively see the most innocent of all—unborn children. Model Emily Ratajkowski recently announced her pregnancy with a personal essay for Vogue, reflecting on gender and revealing her apprehensions about having a son.
