Friends, I hope you got at least some sleep since last night. We knew that due to the historic early and absentee voting by mail it would be a while before before we were handed down any definitive answers, but one thing is exceedingly clear:
The real story of this election is that young people did everything in their power to turn out voters. Even before the final results are called, we’ve already won because we left it all out in the field.
We’re still tallying our numbers and processing reports but I wanted to make sure you got some idea of the impact you and our incredible team of organizers and volunteers had on this year’s election:
-
With your help, friend, we spoke to almost 2 million voters, sent over 3 million text messages and made over 800,000 calls into key battleground states, marking our largest voter outreach effort since our founding in 2008.
-
With the help of organizing programs like ours, we have seen young people shatter voting records this year compared to 2016. During early voting, more than 7 million young people ages 18-29 had already voted, with many of them voting in key states including Texas, North Carolina and Florida. In Texas alone, the number of young voters who already voted increased 600% compared to 2016!

When immigrant youth of UWDA saw the disinformation their family members were sharing on social media, we launched a first of its kind organizing tool to help our supporters fight back against a barrage of disinformation campaigns attempting to keep our communities from voting. We used traditional relational organizing tools in non-traditional ways to disrupt disinformation and stand up for our communities targeted by everything from threatening emails to lies about candidates.
We are looking ahead and making plans for what comes next. If you’re proud of the work we did together and as hopeful for our future as I am, I ask that you make a donation of any amount to United We Dream Action today as an investment in the future we’ve only just begun to build together.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
We have said it all along: when our people are empowered with information, resources, tools, and support, we are powerful enough to change the world.
Immigrant youth energized and mobilized young low-propensity voters to the polls with a pro-immigrant vision, which included defunding the deportation force, protecting DACA, closing down detention camps, and including all immigrants in COVID-19 relief. And the best part is that we are just getting started.
Our work is so important, and we have so much more to do. Everything we accomplished this election cycle was fueled by a people-powered movement of folks dedicated to the pursuit of racial, economic, social, and political justice for immigrants.
Thank you for all you did as a critical and fundamental part of our team this election cycle. Shoulder-to-shoulder, hand-in-hand, we move forward together to continue our existing fights and spark the flames of new ones.
Onward,
Greisa, UWDA
