U.S. to Keep Raising Pressure Until Iran Abandons Its Nuclear Program
The United States is prepared to protect U.S. personnel and citizens in the Middle East as Iran escalates its nuclear program and regional aggression, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Monday. These remarks follow Iran’s announcement on Monday that it began enriching uranium to levels beyond what is permitted under the 2015 nuclear deal and plans to violate other limits again in 60 days unless the Europeans provide more financial benefits to Iran. On July 1, Iran increased its stockpile of low-enriched uranium to exceed the cap stipulated in the agreement. Also, on Monday, the president spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron about “ongoing efforts to ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon and to end Iran’s destabilizing behavior in the Middle East,” according to a
White House statement.

IDF Uncovers Cross-Border Attack Tunnel from Southern Gaza
On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces uncovered a cross-border attack tunnel that entered Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, five years after the start of a 2014 operation aimed at finding and destroying such passages. In 2014, Hamas made extensive use of its tunnel networks to send fighters into Israel, as well as to move its terrorist operatives and munitions within the Gaza Strip. The newly found tunnel runs from the southern Gaza Strip and was located during work to construct an underground barrier to prevent such excavations. It is the 18th cross-border tunnel discovered since the end of the 2014 war. The military proposed building the underground barrier on the Gaza border following the 2014 Gaza war, known as Operation Protective Edge. Bilateral cooperation between the United
States and Israel has been vital for developing the technology needed to locate these attack tunnels.

Iranian Boats Attempt to Block British Tanker in Persian Gulf
On Wednesday, a British warship trained its guns on three Iranian vessels that sought to block a British tanker from passing through the Persian Gulf, the British Defense Ministry said. “Contrary to international law, three Iranian vessels attempted to impede the passage of a commercial vessel, British Heritage, through the Strait of Hormuz,” the British government said in a statement Thursday. “We are concerned by this action and continue to urge the Iranian authorities to de-escalate the situation in the region.” Although the U.S. and U.K. have accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of mounting assaults on vessels carrying oil through the Strait of Hormuz in recent months, this marks the first time this year that a Western warship has come close to military engagement
with Iranian naval forces.

Israel Intelligence Foiled 50 Islamic State, Iranian Attacks in 20 Countries
According to Israel’s Channel 12 news, Israeli intelligence agencies have prevented dozens of Islamic State terror group and Iran-sponsored attacks in various countries around the world by providing local authorities with key information. Over the past three years, the Mossad intelligence agency and the Military Intelligence Directorate supplied information that thwarted 50 attacks in 20 countries. One of the countries Israel transferred intelligence to, according to the report, was Turkey—even during periods when President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was publicly berating Israel and when diplomatic relations between the two countries were officially severed.

Hamas Launches Surprise Drill Raising Alerts Across Gaza
Hamas launched an unprecedented large-scale drill Tuesday to test the readiness of its forces for an all-out conflict in the Gaza Strip, an official Hamas Interior Ministry statement said. Hamas security forces announced that the alert level was raised to its highest, and militants were called up for duty. The Gaza fishermen's association also said Hamas's naval police forces imposed a maritime blockade "until further notice." A joint statement from Palestinian factions in Gaza said that troops were called up and put on standby to test the readiness of the home front, and information from the field shows that the results were positive and the response was perfect. This comes a day after Israel Defense Forces uncovered a cross-border attack tunnel from southern Gaza.

Israelis Develop Haptic Vests for Rescue and Service Dogs
Search-and-rescue dogs and service dogs do absolutely amazing work, saving lives and assisting those in need on a daily basis by command. But what if their handlers are unable to deliver verbal commands, either because of their surroundings or disabilities they may have? Step in the haptic dog vest, which emits painless vibrations that dogs are trained to recognize as various commands. It was developed by an interdisciplinary research team from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and is set to be presented at the World Haptics Conference in Tokyo this month.
