Friend,
This is not the email I hoped to send this morning. As votes here in San Diego continue being counted, the results of the election do not seem to be what we all hoped for. I have called Sara Jacobs to congratulate her, and I stand ready to work with her to advance just policies that will benefit working families and ensure that our recovery from this pandemic leaves no one behind.
While we did not win this one, I will never give up the fight for equality, justice, and a sustainable planet. Last night's results do not define my commitment to building a more just society, I will continue to do the work along with you all.
Together, we've shown everyone in CA-53 just what a progressive, people-powered movement can achieve.
This campaign has never been about me, it has been by and for our community and for the issues that matter to all of us: access to health care, action to combat climate change, affordable housing for families, and a just recovery from this public health and economic crisis we are all living through.
We have proved that grassroots donors can compete with millionaire-backed PACs and that you don't have to be rich or powerful or privileged to run for office.
I have been honored to have your support in this race, friend, and I'm so proud of what we achieved. Last night's results do not define my commitment to building a more just society, I will continue to do the work along with you all.
I hope you will keep up the fight, too. Thank you for everything you have done so far.
Yours,
Georgette Gómez
