I’m writing to invite you to a “war room” meeting tomorrow, Thursday at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET to discuss President Trump’s effort to pre-emptively declare victory before the votes are counted. This is an unprecedented move by an American president — but fortunately, we’ve been preparing for it for months.

Tomorrow, we will discuss the handful of scenarios that could unfold — the remaining states that are counting ballots, the recounts, the courts, how this will play out, and how we’re making sure that the will of the voters decides the outcome of this election.

There is some good news: The media is taking a calm approach, playing down the President’s antics, and so far it is helping keep things steady. Numerous Republican leaders have denounced the President’s actions.

Tomorrow, we’ll outline key milestones between now and Inauguration Day (January 20, 2021) and where things could go wrong. We won’t sugarcoat, and we will be presenting the most need-to-know situational realities and opportunities to protect and restore our democracy.

The call will be led by Josh Silver, Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Kaplan, VP of Policy and Campaigns, and Janice Periquet, VP of Development.

This isn’t about partisanship: It’s about protecting our democratic institutions and making sure votes are counted.

State and Local Reform Snapshot

Several democracy reform ballot measures emerged victorious last night. Fair Maps Virginia won an anti-gerrymandering ballot measure. Ranked Choice Voting won in cities in Minnesota (Bloomington & Minnetonka), California (Eureka & Albany), as well as Boulder, Colorado. Campaign finance reform won in Oregon. Voters in North Dakota and Arkansas defeated legislative attempts to attack the ballot initiative process. In St. Louis, “approval voting” emerged victorious thanks to the organization STL Approves.
