Friend,
Voter turnout is up in Michigan’s 13th congressional district and across the country. I am in awe of the people who volunteered, donated, and came out to vote and show up for their communities—including the nearly 30,000 Michiganders yesterday who took advantage of our first presidential election with same-day voter registration.
But the fight is not over: Millions of votes have yet to be counted in Michigan, and in other key battleground states. And we must push back against Trump’s reckless attempts to prematurely declare victory and undermine the election’s results.
We must demand that every eligible voter have their voice heard and their vote counted.
That’s why over 100 national and local progressive groups have come together to organize a big day of action TODAY, the day after the election.
Click here to find a #CountEveryVote rally near you TODAY. We’ve got to respond ASAP to show Trump that the American people decide the election, not him.
In this election, and in any democracy, every single vote matters. And counting every vote takes time, especially given the record number of mail-in ballots cast due to the coronavirus.
Mail-in ballots—many of which have been cast for Biden—take extra time to open, sort, match signatures, and more. And that’s OK: Taking the time to verify and tabulate each ballot is a sign that our system, our democracy, is working.
While Trump and the GOP want to dismantle our democracy, we the people are building it together each day.
Every vote must be counted.
With millions of votes left to be counted, we must continue to make our voices heard to ensure that our election administrators, and our neighbors who are helping, count every single vote. We the people must continue to set the narrative. Our democracy is being tested, but our movement is massive and has already planned for this scenario.
We can win this fight, if we join together with millions of ordinary Americans to rally and protest across the country at a scale never seen before—in order to demonstrate our power and demand that every vote is counted.
Please click here to find your local coalition event on November 4th, then RSVP to show up and demand that we #CountEveryVote.
Michigan’s Secretary of State and local elections workers are committed to counting every vote cast in our state, which they’ve said may take until tonight or later.
Other states’ election workers are also busy right now, and we must ensure they have time to do their jobs.
The people voted. Let the people decide who wins this election!
Throughout our history, generations of Americans have come together to make a future where our voices are heard and rights are respected. In this moment, we can choose to continue the legacy of people who’ve demanded that our lives, our voices, and our votes count. With people’s lives on the line, it’s up to us to shape our future.
I’m inspired by all the residents I engaged with in our district in the past few months.
While knocking on doors and calling people to see how we could help them get through the pandemic and get the information they needed to vote, I met so many people who have faith in a better world that we’ll make together. We’ve got to have faith in each other. And we can’t take a break now—now’s the time to show up for each other more than ever.
Sign up for an action today to make sure every vote gets counted.
Our work doesn’t end after voting. We’re in an ongoing process of liberation, and right now we’re securing the path ahead to our freedom.
In solidarity,
Rashida
