Dear NRDC Activist,

While we didn't wake up this morning with a declared winner in the presidential election, we knew this outcome was a possibility, and we are prepared to be patient — and vigilant.

With your support and hard work, we fought like hell to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And while it’s so very close, we are encouraged by the latest reporting and remain hopeful that when all votes are counted, Biden and Harris will be declared the next president and vice president of the United States.

The NRDC Action Fund will be monitoring election returns very closely, especially in states where the races are tight and where ballots are still being counted. And we are urging everyone to be patient while the democratic process plays out. It will take time for states to fully count every vote, especially given the unprecedented number of voters who cast mail-in and absentee ballots due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump is desperately trying to hold onto power. After all, undermining public confidence in the voting process has been a central part of his cynical strategy to get re-elected all along.

But we know that what he and his allies are really trying to do is disenfranchise voters, especially in communities of color and in low-income communities. That must not stand. Every single vote must be counted.

Nothing should stand in the way of our nation's democratic commitment to counting all ballots.

The NRDC Action Fund is using every tool available to ensure that all the votes are counted:

• We will activate our members and supporters — online and in the streets — to resist Trump's efforts to shut down the counting of ballots, and to demand that local and state election officials count every vote, whether cast at polling places or by mail.
• We are working together with local and national organizations to demand a free, fair, and accurate vote count.
• We will support efforts by our partners in the courts to ensure that the election outcome is fair and that every ballot is counted.
• And we will carry on this fight for as long as it takes to count every ballot and inaugurate the president who rightfully won the vote.
• With the public's attention diverted by election uncertainty, we won't let Trump and his allies in Congress sneak through more polluter-sponsored assaults on our climate, air, water, lands, communities, and health in the crucial days and weeks ahead.

Rest assured that the NRDC Action Fund, and our sister organization NRDC, will be ready to keep fighting for our environment, for climate justice and clean energy, and for a stronger democracy, no matter who holds power in Washington.
