Friends -
This morning, we are joining with many of our partners and voters across the country in demanding that every vote cast this Election be counted. Our political leaders are elected by the people, and Black and other voters of color showed up in record numbers this election. Their votes, and their voices will decide this Election.
That being said, and while we do not have a decisive result yet, we wanted to reach out to thank you again for joining our elections efforts.
When we launched our #ElectJustice campaign, our goal was to reach 500,000 Black and Latinx voters in Texas and Wisconsin - voters in counties directly impacted by gun violence, and many of whom aren’t engaged.
By the time polls closed, we had reached out to over 1.5 million voters.
Elect Justice was powered by everyday people, including over 950 volunteers, who mobilized political power while playing a major part informing voters that ending gun violence is on the ballot, and that legislators have the power to fund community based efforts to end violence.
After the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Walter Wallace Jr. it is clear that the path to achieving justice for those slain by police violence and gun violence is by electing leaders who are committed to investing in communities to end gun violence.
Our communities can’t wait, and we will keep working to engage communities in Texas and Wisconsin and many other states and cities beyond this election.
CJAF’s primary focus will continue to be supporting local grassroots movements through our “Invest in Us” coalitions. Our investment in Texas and Wisconsin did not start this Election cycle, and we will continue to partner with community leaders to build capacity to create meaningful change by advancing community informed policy and solutions to gun violence.
While we await this Election’s final vote count, the results are not the end of our fight. We have the solutions, and we’re determined to end gun violence.
We hope you will continue to join us as we fight for a world where all people are safe from gun violence. Another world is possible and we will keep fighting for it.
Greg Jackson,
National Advocacy Director
