John -- Well, the count is finalizing, and it's not in our favor. A few minutes ago, I reached out to my opponent and conceded. But I wanted to let you know how incredibly grateful and proud I am to have fought for change alongside you. Coming up short is always hard, and whether it be baseball or elections, it never gets easier. For this moment though, I want you to think about what we've accomplished together and all the progress we made in the past few years. We visited every town in Iowa’s 4th district (all 374) and brought new advocates into the fight for affordable, quality health care for every American. We started a national conversation on enforcing antitrust laws so farmers, families, and consumers can get a fair shake. And we put a spotlight on the needs of our rural communities and the inequalities they face. That's damn good work. To everyone who has shared their personal stories with us, welcomed us into their business or farm, or donated a piece of their paycheck or their time to help us fight for change, thank you. But this is not the end, this can't be the end of our work. I urge the countless Iowans who have found their voices advocating for causes important to them to not let this moment be the end of their advocacy and political engagement. Instead, let it be the beginning. I know this isn't the outcome we were hoping for, and the pain of this loss might sting for a little but never, ever doubt your power to create change. I'm so dang proud of this team and the work we've done, and while I can't pay back your support and generosity the way I'd hope to, I wanted to leave you with one last promise: I will always Stand Tall for All: for you, your family, and the future of our great state. Thank you for everything, truly. Stay safe, and never stop fighting, -- J.D. |
