As the new school year approaches, it should go without saying that the health and safety of our children, teachers, and all other education professionals should be the top priority.

John,

It is with deeply felt gratitude and sincere appreciation that I thank Oregonians this evening for entrusting me with another term as your Attorney General. I will do my very best to live up to your highest expectations.

From the outset, I’ve envisioned my role as the People’s Attorney. That will never change as long as I am your AG. Over these next years I promise to continue to look out for our most vulnerable and to fight tirelessly for the issues that matter most to Oregonians as we dig out from some of the biggest challenges our state has ever faced. These include: recovering from this fall’s wildfires; getting control over the COVID-19 pandemic; rebuilding our economy; and  pursuing racial justice and economic equality for all.

Of course, all eyes are on the ongoing race for the presidency tonight.  What’s most important right now is that all legal votes be counted — and that we give elections officials all over the country the time and space to perform their jobs responsibly. That, after all, is how our democracy has always worked. In the days ahead, along with my Democratic AG colleagues around the country,  I plan to keep a close watch on the post-election counting process.  I will keep you posted.

Here in Oregon, your vote and trust in me to fulfill the duties of Attorney General mean the world to me. Serving as your Attorney General is a responsibility I hold with an unmatchable sense of pride. Though we cannot know what the next four years will bring — we can all commit ourselves to making our state fairer, safer, and more successful for each and every one of us.

I want to put in a special word of thanks to my campaign staff, who have worked hard and thoughtfully under challenging circumstances.  It's truly been a team effort, and I am grateful for all of the sacrifices they have made.  In an election cycle unlike any other, I am so proud to have gone through it with the team I had.

To my family: No one can perform public service without an incredibly supportive and helpful “village." Richard, Cate, Will, Megan, Kyle, Charlotte, and Benjamin: You give real meaning to all of this.

And to all of you: We did this -- together.

I can’t thank you enough,
